Hume City Council recognises the rich Aboriginal heritage within the municipality and acknowledges the Gunung-Willam-Balluk of the Wurundjeri as the Traditional Custodians of this land. Council embraces Aboriginal living culture as a vital part of Australia's identity and recognises, celebrates and pays respect to the existing family members of the Gunung Willam Balluk and to Elders past and present. Cr Carly Moore: the new Mayor of Hume I am very honoured to be Hume City Council's newly-elected Mayor. Hume has been my home for 39 years. I went to school here, I got my first job here, I built my first home here and now my husband and I are raising our four children here. Hume is where my family lives. I want everyone who chooses to call Hume home to love this City as much as I do. It is this passion for our City and commitment to creating a positive future for my family and yours that will underpin my term as Mayor. I am delighted that, in the year ahead, Council is set to deliver a range of projects and initiatives that include more than $118 million in maintaining and upgrading our roads, parking, footpaths and bike paths. These works will have a significant impact on the safety and wellbeing of our community. We will also continue to focus on the day-to-day essential services that support our growing community – services that make the lives of our community better. In 2019, we will also see two important milestone projects come to fruition - the opening of the much anticipated $19 million Hume Global Learning Centre in Sunbury and the refurbishment of the Broadmeadows Town Hall, which will bring the much-loved building back to life and transform it into a modern centre for community events and business. These two milestone projects are the legacy of Councils that have served before us. In my time in this chair, I want to ensure this Council leaves a wonderful legacy as well. As an accountant, it is probably no surprise that I will work to ensure your rate dollars are used for the greatest benefit to the community. I am also excited to work with Council to seek creative ways to address dumped rubbish and improve the appearance of our City. There is a lot to look forward to over the coming year, and I am proud to be working to make Hume an even better place to live. Cr Carly Moore Mayor of Hume
