Considering getting solar panels or solar hot water? The Victorian Government is helping households cut their electricity bills through the Solar Homes Package, which will be delivered by the newly established Solar Victoria. Eligible households can claim a rebate of up to $2,225 on the cost of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system or a $1,000 rebate for the replacement of hot water systems with solar hot water. Households will only be eligible for one rebate under the Solar Homes Package (i.e. a household that accesses a solar hot water rebate cannot claim a solar PV rebate). Rebates are available for systems installed after 19 August 2018. If passed in the next State budget in May, the Victorian Government will introduce additional rebates, including: ■ covering half the cost of a solar panel system – and you'll be able to pay the rest back over four years with an interest-free loan ■ giving landlords and renters access to the scheme and allowing them to split the remaining cost of the solar panel installation, paying it back over four years with an interest-free loan ■ offering half-price battery rebates of up to $4,838 to 10,000 homes.
