3 Community Update Town Hall opening for business soon! Modern revival for grand old civic building The Town Hall Broadmeadows has been receiving an amazing makeover from top to bottom, inside and out, since construction started more than 18 months ago. Opening in 1964, this grand old civic building hosted countless community events for more than 50 years. These included school concerts, debutante balls, community group celebrations, Australian Citizenship ceremonies and festivals. It still holds a special place in the hearts of many locals who share fond memories of celebrations, dances and many new romances over the years. If only the walls could talk! As the building aged over the years, it fell out of use. However recent works are expected to herald a fabulous renaissance period. A $25-million dollar refit this year launches the venue into another exciting chapter in its history. It's terrific that the Town Hall will once again host community events, as well as a new business hub to support local jobs. The revitalised building includes a main events hall, conference facilities, meeting rooms, a bar, exhibition areas, StartNorth coworking space, an art gallery and commercial offices in Dimboola Road. Catering for functions with up to 500 people seated or 800 people cocktail- style, the hall provides a contemporary space for weddings, corporate, private and community events. Residents will be warmly invited to its grand re-opening celebrations in October as they are welcomed back into the building that has been the heart of the community for more than half a century. The redevelopment project is a combination of $18 million funding from Hume City Council and a $7 million contribution from the Victorian Government. A free community open day will be held to celebrate the project's completion, expected to be in October. Find out more open day details at townhallbroadmeadows.com.au
