2 I will work to ensure that prudent fiscal management is at the forefront of all decisions made by Council and that Council plays a lead role in both job and economic attraction to Hume. As a life-long resident of Hume, it is not hard for me to find inspiration to lead our City. I find this every day both within my family, friends and the residents that are working hard to make a better life for their families. The year ahead promises to be full of challenges and great opportunities, and I am committed to working tirelessly to deliver an effective and high-performing Council. On behalf of Council, I would also like to wish everyone a happy and safe festive season and a very happy new year. Hume City Council recognises the rich Aboriginal heritage within the municipality and acknowledges the Gunung-Willam-Balluk of the Wurundjeri as the Traditional Custodians of this land. Council embraces Aboriginal living culture as a vital part of Australia's identity and recognises, celebrates and pays respect to the existing family members of the Gunung-Willam-Balluk and to Elders past and present. Mayor's Message It is with great pride that I am the Mayor of Hume City again, and I thank my fellow Councillors for their trust and support. I am excited to be working alongside Cr Jack Medcraft and Cr Karen Sherry as our Deputy Mayors. Having a leadership team that represents all three wards will help us to better engage with and represent residents in all corners of our City. I look forward to working more closely with both Cr Sherry and Cr Medcraft in the year ahead. It has been a busy year as Mayor but there is so much more to do; in short, my work is not yet done. Among my priorities for the year ahead will be improving the appearance and amenity of the City. The Hume Clean Taskforce – which I introduced earlier this year – will help ensure we have community and Council-led solutions to cleaning up and beautifying our City. Hume residents deserve the very best and this can only be achieved when all parts of our City receive their fair share of funding. I will continue to work closely with our State and Federal Members of Parliament to ensure our residents voices are heard. Finally, I know our proud community is now more than ever feeling the impacts of cost of living pressures and economic uncertainty.
